Calcium deposits occur when there is calcification of the soft tissue. In normal conditions, calcification of bones is a positive and healthy thing but when the calcium is poorly absorbed, it leads to calcium deposits in areas where they are unwanted. This can lead to many health issues. Calcification of the kidneys, for example, leads to kidney stones which result in painful symptoms. Calcium deposits usually occur as we age but calcification of organs can even occur at young age which could lead to health problems later in life. Let us study some calcium deposit removal tips and natural remedies.

1. Balance the body’s ph levels
According to author Mark Mayer in his book ‘Calcification: The Aging Factor, How to Defuse the Calcium Bomb’, calcification and calcium deposits arise when the body’s ph becomes acidic. The body then draws out calcium from the bones to counteract the acidity. Many people take antacids which contain calcium to counter hyperacidity. All this excess calcium leads to soft tissue calcification which is exacerbated by the phosphorus in the food. Phosphorus further aids calcification by creating calcium phosphate deposits. Therefore, Mayer suggests reducing intake of phosphorus based foods to counter acidity. Many meats, processed foods, and cola drinks are notoriously high in phosphorus. Limiting intake of these foods can help along with making the ph more alkaline.
2. Avoid dairy
Dairy is extremely rich in phosphorus which increases calcification of soft tissue. So cut back on dairy to prevent calcium deposits on foot, shoulders and face etc.
3. Take magnesium
Magnesium is an anti-calcification mineral. It is highly alkaline and binds with phosphorus to counter calcification. Nearly 80% of Americans are deficient in magnesium owing to the fact that we cannot get it from diet alone. Thanks to depleted soils and over farming, magnesium is not available even in so-called magnesium rich foods. So supplementation is a must but choose a supplement that does not contain calcium. You need at least 1000mg of magnesium in divided doses.
4. Castor oil poultice
To get rid of calcium deposits on face, shoulders, hands or feet, massage warm castor oil in the affected region. Then cover up the skin with gauze and apply heat over it. This will allow the oil to get absorbed by the skin. With regular use, this treatment for calcium deposits in foot will show great results.
5. Chanca piedra for calcium deposits (phyllanthus)
This is a tropical herb that is also known as the ‘kidney stone’ tree. Chanca piedra calcium deposit remedy is very popular and has been used since centuries for preventing calcification of organs and soft tissue. Today, this herb is available in the form of tinctures and tablets. Research in Brazil has proven[i] that keeps calcium oxalate crystals from entering the kidneys and forming kidney stones.
6. Aloe juice
Take ½ cup of Aloe juice daily for no more than 2 weeks at a time. The aloemannan in Aloe juice helps slow down the formation of crystals and calcium deposits.
7. Dietary changes
To prevent formation of new calcium deposits, you need to reduce or completely avoid alcohol and harmful fats. Also, a high fiber intake is important since low fiber diets are associated with formation of crystals and calcium stones. Do avoid high protein and crash diets as they increase acidity and promote formation of stones. As stated above, limit intake of dairy, processed and red meat, black tea, beets, spinach, rhubarb, Swiss chard and cranberries. Also limit intake of purine rich foods like anchovies, sardines, herring and mackerel which lead to uric acid stones.
8. Drink more water before, after and during exercise
People who work out are most likely to develop calcium deposits as the body becomes highly acidic during exercise and the extra acid pulls out calcium to form deposits. Drinking tons of water can prevent this from happening.
9. Use distilled water
Unfiltered water can contain calcium so use distilled water for cooking and drinking. Add trace minerals to your drinking water supply.
10. Take unpasteurized apple cider vinegar
A great folk remedy to break calcium deposits on face, feet or shoulders is to drink raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. The potassium in vinegar dissolves the calcium deposits. To make the vinegar palatable, add some honey to it. Take this mixture up to 3 times a day.
11. Take ginger and turmeric
Drinking ginger tea two-three times a day can prevent pain caused by calcification of soft tissues. Also take turmeric which is an anti-inflammatory herb. It relieves pain and inflammation and prevents formation of new deposits.
12. Vinegar poultice
A folk remedy described in a book called Folk Medicine: A Vermont Doctor’s Guide to Good Health by Dr. D.C Jarvis, MD is using apple cider vinegar poultice daily on the deposit. Heat the vinegar and add a bit of ginger juice to it. Apply the hot mixture on affected areas and cover with a plastic wrap. Continue to use the wrap daily. This will dissolve the deposit.
13. Homeopathic remedy for calcium deposit pain
A remedy called Rhus Tox 30 C potency is known to reduce pain caused by the deposit and also prevent new deposits. Take 4-5 pellets of the medicine for 3 days. Talk to an experienced homeopath about the same.
These 13 remedies for calcium deposit symptoms work provided you use them regularly.
